Zala IP Law LLC was founded to help creatives and entrepreneurs protect their ideas and monetize their intellectual property.
Shreepal “Shreeps” J. Zala founded the firm to help creative businesses and entrepreneurs fulfill their potential and stay profitable year after year.
He believes in the design of US intellectual property law: that promising you exclusive rights to your work is what encourages authorship and innovation in the first place. The best way to keep your IP profitable, in his view, is to protect it properly and early. The firm's slogan is meant literally. It is a reminder that these are rights, and that they are worth defending in a digital age.
Born in New Hampshire and raised near Philadelphia, he read Economics at Emory University, then studied guitar performance at the Atlanta Institute of Music and Media, and performed professionally for years before law school.
He earned his J.D. from Georgia State University College of Law with a certificate in Entertainment, Sports and Media Law with honors, served as president of the Sports and Entertainment Law Society, and took the CALI award for the top mark in Information Privacy Law. As a legal extern with Georgia Lawyers for the Arts he analyzed the Music Modernization Act and its effect on royalty distribution through the Mechanical Licensing Collective.
He is a member of the Copyright Society of the USA and the Licensing Executives Society, and he advocates publicly for stronger protection of human authorship as AI-driven creation grows.
Outside the practice he still plays and writes songs, follows tech and AI closely, reads world and music history, goes to anything live, and keeps an active lifestyle. He will also recommend a good book if you remember to ask.
